Why Taj Mahal was built? The Taj Mahal was made to order by SHAH JAHAN “ The fifth ruler of the Mughal family ” in 1631, to be built in the memory of his beloved spouse “MUMTAZ MAHAL” ( a Persian princess ) who died on 17 th of June that year, during the birth of their 14th child who was named “GAUHARA BEGUM” . Construction Construction of building started in 1632, and the tomb was finalized in 1643, while the nearby buildings and garden were finished five years later. The materials that were used to build Taj Mahal were moved to the construction site by a monstrous 1,000 elephants.
