Mehdi Hassan Khan_The King of Ghazal singing



   Mehdi Hasan Khan  was born on 18 July 1927  in a musical family.He was a Pakistani ghazal singer and playback singer for Pakistan Film Industry(Lollywood).


   He is considered as one of the supreme and most significant person in the history of classical music especially ghazal singing.

Attributes

He is famously known as the "King of Ghazal" or the "Shahanshah-e-Ghazal".


    Mehdi Hassan is attributed with conveying ghazal singing to a global audience. He is unique for his melodic patterns. He kept alive the raga based ghazal genre alive in modern times.

  •   In 1977, Lata Mangeshkar “The Nightingale of Bollywood” was so very much touched by his melodious vocals during a New Delhi concert that it has been reported she said,

 “Aisa lagta hai ke unke gale mein bhagwan boltein hain,”
                                            Translation
                (It feels like God is singing through his neck).

Visit to India

   In 2005, he was taken to India for ayurvedic treatment where he was greeted by A.B. Vajpayee, Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and many other of his Indian fans.


Death
He died on June 13,2012 in Agha Khan Hospital(Karachi)
